Budget tablets

WishTel Ira

The WishTel Ira sports a seven-inch capacitive touchscreen with 800 x 480 resolution, while the Ira Thing has a resistive touchscreen with the same resolution. The Ira runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS and is powered by an 800MHz CPU. It has a 512MB of RAM. The device has a 4GB inbuilt storage expandable up to 32GB via MicroSD card. For connectivity, the device supports Wi-Fi, 3G and USB 2.0. The Ira has a 2,800 mAh battery. The device comes preloaded with a bunch of apps such as a Web Browser, Media Player, Photo viewer, Office, MSN, Skype, Gtalk, Note pad, Clock, Weather and more.

The WishTel Ira is priced at Rs. 5,000, and the Ira Thing is priced at Rs. 4,000. The specifications of both the budget tablets are the same apart from the fact that the Ira Thing has a resistive touchscreen and the Ira has a capacitive touchscreen. Also, the Ira Thing has a 2,200 mAh battery whereas the Ira has a 2,800 mAh battery.

Aakash 2

The Aakash 2 tablet is going to be an improved version of the original Aakash tablet, which was developed by DataWind. The device will have a seven-inch capacitive touchscreen and will be powered by a 700MHz Cortex A8 processor. The Aakash 2 tablet will have an improved 3,200 mAh battery, which is rated to deliver three-hours of back up. The device runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS and supports the following document (DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX, XLS, XLSX, ODT, ODP, PDF), image (PNG, JPG, BMP and GIF), audio (MP3, AAC, AC3, WAV, WMA) and video (MPEG2, MPEG4, AVI, FLV) file formats. For connectivity, the device supports Wi-Fi and GPRS. The Aakash 2 is priced at Rs. 2,276.

As you can also see, the Aakash 2 tablet continues to be the cheapest tablet in the market so far. Even at a price of Rs. 5,000, the WishTel Ira still costs twice as much as the Aakash tablet. But having said that, there's no confirmed information about the availability of the Aakash device. Though Union minister Kapil Sibal has said that the device will be launched next month, we're not sure that'll happen, especially considering the previous failures to meet deadlines.

Would you prefer waiting for another month to lay hands on the Aakash 2 tablet? Or, will you go ahead with WishTel's Ira tablet that costs you twice as much as the Aakash tablet?

Trai: One paisa per second plan mandatory

NEW DELHI: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked all service providers to ensure that they offer their customers atariff plan of one paisa per second along with other offerings.

The regulator in a tariff amendment order said it had become "mandatory" for service providers to offer in each service area at least one tariff plan each for both postpaid and prepaid subscriber with a uniform pulse rate of 'one second'.

"The service providers will be at liberty to offer alternative tariff plans with any pulse rate within the overall ceiling of 25 tariff plans," TRAI said in a statement.

The rates for premium rate services currently levied by service providers are substantially higher as compared to the normal tariff applicable for a two-way communication due to the fact that the charges levied also include the price for content.

Keeping in view the fact that calls and SMS made for participating in competition and voting hardly contain any content, TRAI's Telecommunication Tariff (Fifty First Amendment) Order 2012 also mandated that tariff for such calls and SMS shall not exceed four times of the applicable local call or SMS charges.

The amendment also provides flexibility to service providers to applyrevision in international long distance tariff uniformly for new as well as existing subscribers.

TRAI had issued a consultation paper in October last year on "Certain issues relating to Telecom Tariff" seeking views of stakeholders.

Most of the operators opposed when asked if one standard plan for all service providers particularly for a prepaid subscriber would be relevant in the present scenario of Indian telecom market.

The regulator has also retained the existing cap of 25 tariff plans that can be offered by access service providers including post-paid and pre-paid.

Subject: Payment of Dearness Allowance to Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) at revised rates with effect from 01-01-2012.Onwards-reg.

  

          Consequent upon grant of another installment of dearness allowance with effect from 01^st JANUARY, 2012 to Central Government Employees, vide Government of India, Ministry of Finance, Department of Expenditure O.M. No.1(1)/2012-EII(B), dated 3^RD APRIL,,2011,duly endorsed vide this Department's letter no.8-1/2012-PAP Dated 3.4.12, the Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS), have also become entitled to the payment of dearness allowance on basic TRCA at the revised rate with effect from 01-01-2012. It has, therefore, been decided that the dearness allowance payable to the Gramin Dak Sevaks shall be enhanced from the existing rate of 58% to 65% on the basic Time Related Continuity Allowance, with effect from 1^st  JANUARY, 2012.

2.         The additional installment of dearness allowance payable under this order, shall be paid in cash to all Gramin Dak Sevaks. The payment of arrears of dearness allowance for the month of JANUARY to MARCH, 2012, shall not be made before the date of disbursement of TRCA of March, 2012.

3.         The expenditure on this account will be debited to the Sub Head 'Salaries' under the relevant head and should be met from the sanctioned grant.

4.         This issues with the concurrence of Integrated Finance Wing vide their Diary No.104/FA/12/CS, dated 12^TH APRIL, 2012

SERVICE TAX FOR PREMIUM PRODUCTS RAISED

Service tax for various premium products like Speed post, Express Parcel Post raised by 12%. There is no change in Education Cess(2%) and and Higher Secondary Education Cess(1%). Thus the effective rate from 1.4.2012 is 12.36%

Holiday Compensatory Incentive for Postal Employees

Subject: - Revision of Fixed Monetary compensation (FMC) to delivery staff and remuneration to other staff

Sir/Madam,

I am directed to refer to Directorates letter of even number dated 4-9-2002 and 28.1.2003 on the above subject.

2. The Department has received a number of references from the staff Associations requesting for upward revision of fixed Monetary compensation (FMC) admissible to Postmen staff. A Committee of Senior Officers was constituted for looking into the issue and the report of the Committee has been examined carefully in consultation with integrated Finance wing and the Competent Authority has ordered enhancement of the Fixed Monetary compensation (FMC) admissible to Postmen staff. The details are as under:

1. When One Postman performs duty of an absentee Postman by combination of duties from Rs.29 per day revised to Rs.50 per day
2. When two Postmen perform duty of an absentee Postman by sharing the beat from Rs.14 per day revised to Rs.24 per day

3. The competent Authority has also ordered fixation/revision of Holiday Monetary Compensation payable to Postmen Staff and other Departmental staff brought on duty on 2nd consecutive Holiday if three consecutive holidays occur as shown under:

Remuneration to

1. for Supervisor Rs.85 per holiday for 4 hours
2. for Postal Assistant Rs.85 per holiday for 4 hours
3. for Postmen/Sorting Postmen Rs.85 per holiday
4. for Multi tasking staff Rs.60 per holiday for 4 hours

4. All other conditions for payment of Fixed Monetary compensation (FMC) issued vide OM No.10-23/87-PE.I dt. 21.12.93 and delivery of Unregistered letters on holidays issued under 9-25/92-CI dt. 10.9.92 will remain unchanged.

5. The Expenditure on account of revision has to be met from the allocated funds of the units under the prescribed Head of account.

6. These orders will take effect from the date of issue.

7. This issues in concurrence with the Integrated Finance Wing vide their diary number 286/FA/10/CS dated 24.11.2010.

இந்தோனேஷியாவில் இன்று மதியம் சுமத்ரா தீவை மையம் கொண்டு கடுமையான நிலநடுக்கம் ஏற்பட்டது. இது ரிக்டர் அளவுகோலில் 8.9 ஆக பதிவானது. இதையடுத்து இந்தோனேஷியா உள்ளிட்ட 28 நாடுகளுக்கு சுனாமி எச்சரிக்கை விடப்பட்டது.

இந்நிலையில் ஹவாய் தீவில் அமைந்துள்ள பசுபிக் சுனாமி எச்சரிக்கை மையம் இந்தோனேஷியால் ஏற்பட்ட நிலநடுக்கம் குறித்து கூறியதாவது,

இந்தோனேஷியாவில் இன்று மதியம் ஏற்பட்ட இரண்டு நிலநடுக்கங்களும் சுனாமியை ஏற்படுத்தக்கூடிய நிலநடுக்கங்கள் இல்லை. அது வேறுவிதமான விளைவுகளை உண்டாக்கக்கூடிய நிலநடுக்கங்களே.

இந்நிலநடுக்கத்தால் இந்தோனேஷியாவில் உள்ள கடற்கரை பகுதிகளில் பாதிப்பு இருக்கும். தற்போது அரை மணி நேரத்திற்கு முன்னதாக ஏற்பட்ட நிலநடுக்கம் காரணமாக ஏதேனும் சுனாமி ஏற்படுமா என்பது குறித்து ஆய்வு செய்து வருகிறோம்.

இந்த நிலநடுக்கத்தால் சுமார் அரை மீட்டரிலிருந்து 1 மீட்டர் அளவுக்கே சுனாமி அலைகள் எழும்பும் எனவும் தெரிவித்துள்ளது. இதனால் தமிழகம் உள்ளிட்ட இந்திய கடற்கரையோர பகுதிகளில் சுனாமி ஏற்பட வாய்ப்பு இல்லை என்று முதலில் தெரிவித்திருந்தது.

இருப்பினும், சர்வதேச கடல் பகுதிகள் அனைத்தும் தீவிரமாக கண்காணிக்கப்பட்டு வருவதாகவும், இந்திய கடல் பகுதிகளையும் தீவிரமாக கண்காணித்து வருகிறோம் எனவும் அம்மையம் தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

இந்தோனேஷியாவில் முதல் நிலநடுக்கத்தை அடுத்து தொடர்ந்து இரண்டு நிலநடுக்கங்கள் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளதால், சுனாமி எச்சரிக்கை விடப்பட்டுள்ளது. இது சுமார் 6 மீட்டர் அளவில் அலைகள் எழும்பும் எனவும் எச்சரிக்கை விடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

 

இதனால் இந்திய கடற்கரையோரப் பகுதிகளிலும் சுனாமி எச்சரிக்கை கால அவகாசம் நீட்டிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இந்திய தபால்துறை நவீன தொழி்ல்நுட்ப முறையில் துவக்கப்படவுள்ளன. ஒருங்கிணைக்கப்பட்ட வங்கிகளைப்போல் தபால்துறையினையும் ஒருங்கிணக்க முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. அதன்படி வங்கிகளைப்போன்று ஏ.டி.எம். மையங்கள் துவக்கப்படவுள்ளது. முதற்கட்டமாக அசாம், உத்திரபிரதேசம், ராஜஸ்தான், மகாராஷ்டிரா, தமிழகம் கர்நாடகா என 6 மாநிலங்களில் 1000 ஏ.டி.எம். மையங்கள் துவங்க நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்பட்டுவருகிறது.

இது குறித்து தபால்துறை செயலர் மஞ்சுளா பிரஸ்ஹர் கூறியதாவது: முதல்கட்டமாக 6 மாநிலங்களில் 1000 ஏ.டி.எம்.க்கள் இந்தாண்டு இறுதியில் துவக்கப்பட உள்ளது. வங்கிகளைப்போன்று இதில் பல்வேறு சலுகைகளை பொதுமக்கள் பயன்படுத்திக்கொள்ளலாம். இதற்காக இன்போசி்ஸ், டி.சி.எஸ். ரிலையன்ஸ் உள்ளிட்ட ஐந்து தகவல் தொழில்நுட்ப நிறுவனங்களின் ஒத்துழைப்புடன் நடவடிக்கை எடுககப்பட்டு வருகிறது என்றார்.

A NEW GDS UNION UNDER NFPE

During the  7^th All India Conference of All India Postal Extra Departmental Employees Union  held  at Mozri in Amravati District of Maharashtra Circle, from 6^th to 8^th April, 2012, one group led by AP,West Bengal and Kerala circle unions break away from SSMahadevaiah led AIPED Employees union and the break away group formed a new GDS union "AIPEU GDS (NFPE)". The following office bearers are elected to the newly formed AIPEU GDS (NFPE).

All-India Chairman:  Gopal pijay Sur - West Bengal. 
General Secretary:  P. Panduranga Rao - Gudur Dn of Andhra Pradesh.

தமிழக அரசு ஊழியர்களுக்கு ஊதிய உயர்வு

Tamil Nadu government has declared an additional Dearness allowance of 7% to its employees with effect from 1.1.2012.

The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister today made an announcement in Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to increase 7% of Dearness allowance to all State Government employees and Pensioners.

An office memorandum has also been published regarding the above subject today in the TN Government official website, the enhanced payment of Dearness allowance will be made in cash with effect from 1.1.2012. 


The Dearness allowance increase will benefit more than 18 lakh employees of TN Government, including Anganwadi employees, Sathunavu workers.
